Humanoid Robot Competitions: Lessons Learnt

Recently, there have been a number of robotic competitions that asks for a general, self-contained humanoid robot system that can autonomously work in realistic, uncontrolled environment.

In this talk, I will present two international humanoid robot competitions I have been participating in: which are the RoboCup international robotic soccer competition with the ultimate goal to make soccer playing robot that can match the best human players by 2050, and the DARPA Robotics Challenge that aims to develop an disaster relief robot with capabilities far exceeding current state of the art.
